Kevin Fagan enters his eighth season as head softball coach at the College of Central Florida. He has produced 10 NJCAA All-Americans and 20 NFCA All-Americans in just six years (no post season awards in 2020). 

In six and a half seasons as head coach, Fagan has amassed an astounding 355-68 record (124-20 conference record), winning more than 83 percent of his games. The four-time Mid-Florida Conference coach of the year has kept the Lady Patriot softball program at the forefront of the national spotlight. He has transformed a program that was subpar for decades into a National powerhouse, averaging well over 50 wins a season.

In the shortened 2020 season the Lady Patriots were well on their way to perhaps the best year in the history of the progam. They were completely dominant from the start. En route to a 30-1 record the Lady Patriots knocked off 6 opponents ranked in the top 20 NJCAA Division 1 Poll. Once again the Lady Patriots were one of the very best offensive teams in the Nation. The 2020 team led the state and nation in hits, runs scored and RBI's. They were also near the top of almost every other category, leading the state in on base percentage (2nd NJCAA), while finishing No. 2 in the state in batting average (.433- 3rd NJCAA) and No. 3 in the state in stolen bases (3rd- NJCAA). Fagan's Pitching staff was once again dominant as well, leading the Nation in lowest earned run average (1.25) and finishing 3rd in strikeouts.

The 2019 Lady Patriots won the Mid-Florida Conference title for the fourth time in six years. They also won the first FCSAA State (Region 8) Championship in school history, taking down NJCAA No. 3 Chipola and NJCAA No. 1 Florida SouthWestern in their final two games. The 2019 team had yet another amazing year offensively. The Lady Patriots were near the top of every offensive category in the Nation. They led the state in home runs for the sixth consecutive year (101- Top 5 in NJCAA). The Lady Patriots also led the State in RBI (519- 2nd NJCAA), hits (703- 3rd NJCAA), and slugging percentage (.626- Top 10 NJCAA), while finishing No. 2 in the state in batting average (.377- Top 15 NJCAA). Tiffany Steczo led the state in home runs with 28 (2nd NJCAA), shattering the all time CF record set by Amy Syzmanowski (23). Fagan produced the Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year for the fourth time in six years (Kelsie Rivers). The Lady Patriots once again led the MFC in All-Conference players with 10, 5 picked up All-State honors and 2 were named to the FCSAA All-Tournament team (Devyn Howard, Gretchen Ebert).

In 2018 the Patriots continued their run in the National spotlight, ranking Top 10 NJCAA D1 Poll for eight consecutive weeks and ranking as high as No. 5. They also clinched their 5th consecutive State tournament appearance. Fagan led the Patriots to its third Mid-Florida Conference title in five years and developed the state's leading offense. The Lady Patriots led the state in most home runs (67- Top 15 in NJCAA), runs scored (503), RBI (461), and slugging percentage (.582). Fagan also led the offense to No. 2 finishes in FCSAA, Top 20 in NJCAA, in team batting average (.374) and on-base percentage (.450). Karli Woolington led the state in batting average (.471), while Takiya London finished No. 2 in FCSAA, Top 15 in NJCAA, in home runs (19), and No. 2 in the state in runs batted in (69).

In the circle, Fagan’s pitching staff finished No. 3 in the state, No. 6 in the nation for lowest earned run average (1.70). Fagan developed his third Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year in Lindsay Markham-Rosario. Markham-Rosario led the state and nation in total wins (29), while finishing No. 3 in the FCSAA, Top 10 in NJCAA in total strikeouts (227) and ERA (0.98).

Eleven players garnered MFC All-Conference honors, most of any school, while six picked up All-State honors at the conclusion of the 2018 season. In the classroom, 11 players received MFC All-Academic team honors and nine were named to the FCSAA All-Academic team.

In 2017, Fagan's line up dominated the state and national stats for yet another year. At the plate, CF's offense finished No. 1 in the state, Top 20 in the nation for most home runs hit (60), most runs scored (471), and most runs batted in (422). Fagan's team finished second in the state in team batting average (.373). Sophomore infielder Destinee Lizzmore led the state in total home runs (17) and RBIs (74), while shortstop Caeley Nix finished with the third-highest batting average in the state (.470).

In the circle, Fagan's pitching staff finished third in the state and fourth in the nation for lowest earned run average (1.58). Freshman Morgan Cushman finished second in the state in total wins, while Lindsay Markham-Rosario finished Top 3 in total saves (4) and Shayne O'Connell finished Top in lowest ERA (1.20) and total strike outs (168). 

Eight players on Fagan's 2017 squad received MFC All-Conference honors at the end of the season, while Brooke Barlow was also named to the all-state team.

In 2016, Fagan’s high-powered offense led the state in batting average (.403), home runs (89), and most runs scored (609), while finishing top 3 in the nation in home runs and runs scored, en route to back-to-back conference titles. He surpassed the program's winningest record for a second year in a row by finishing 62-5 (23-1 in conference). NJCAA All-American and FCSAA and MFC Player of the Year Brooke Barlow led the state and nation for most runs batted in (107), becoming just the third player in Region 8 history to drive in 100 or more runs in a single season. In the circle, Fagan’s pitching staff finished No. 1 in the state, top 5 in the nation, for lowest earned run average (1.61). He developed another NJCAA All-American pitcher in current University of South Florida pitcher Kalen McGill, who led all pitchers in the state and nation for lowest earned run average (0.83), while also finishing top in the state and nation for most regular season wins (33). In addition to all-american honors, McGill was also named conference and state pitcher of the year.

At the conclusion of the 2016 season, awards kept rolling in for Fagan’s squad.

In addition to garnering the state and conference player and pitcher of the year, CF also boasted the NFCA Golden Shoe Award winner in Mariah Wise. The award is presented annually to the most outstanding base stealer in the nation from each respective division: NCAA (Div. I, II, III), NAIA, NJCAA (Div. I, II, III), Cal JC, NWAC and high school. As a team, Fagan notched 4 NJCAA All-Americans, seven FCSAA All-State selections, and 11 all-conference honorees.

In 2015, Fagan received the program’s first MFC Coach of the Year award after leading the Lady Patriots to their first-ever MFC title and NJCAA No. 1 ranking that spanned seven weeks. Over the season, CF Softball led the state in runs scored (407) and home runs hit (52), while finishing Top 5 in FCSAA in batting average. He and his pitching staff ranked among the best in the nation in lowest earned run average (ERA), led by state and conference pitcher of the year Holly McKinnon. In total, Fagan notched 11 all-conference players, five FCSAA All-State players and two NJCAA All-Americans (Holly McKinnon and Mariah Wise). 

In his first season as head coach, he led the Lady Patriots to a NJCAA No. 2 overall finish, falling to Angelina College in the NJCAA National Championship game. The CF Softball team experienced its then best-ever, overall record under Fagan, finishing 48-15 (18-6 conf.) on the season and No. 2 in the state. They also took down NJCAA No. 1 teams Indian River State College and Arizona Western College en route to their national runner-up finish. Fagan and his coaching staff earned South Regional Softball Coaching Staff of the Year honors as a result of their great success in 2013. Other achievements included producing the Mid-Florida Conference Player of the Year and NJCAA All-American in Amy Szymanowski, as well as placing two on the FCSAA All-State team and eight on the MFC All-Conference team

Prior to CF, Fagan experienced much success on the gridiron and in the high school softball arena.

Fagan, a championship-winning defensive lineman with the University of Miami (1983 National Champion) and San Francisco 49ers (two Super Bowl Rings), played eight years in the NFL before retiring in 1994. He also has earned a spot in the Palm Beach County Hall of Fame, as well as the University of Miami Hall of Fame and Florida High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Fagan earned NFL All-Pro honors, as well as a spot on the All-Madden Team. From there, he got into softball coaching when his oldest daughter Kasey began playing in a Dunnellon-area youth league. At Dunnellon High School, Fagan led the Tigers to Class 4A State Championships in 2009 and 2010. The 2010 DHS team was named national champions by ESPN after it knocked off high-powered Naples in the Class 4A State Championship Game in Clermont. Overall, Fagan coached DHS for six seasons and compiled a 122-19 record. During his time at DHS, Fagan coached three Florida Gatorade Players of the Year, one National Gatorade Player of the Year, seven All-State players (four on the first team) and three All-Americans (two on the first team). Fagan's daughters Kasey (Arkansas), Sami (Missouri) and Haley (Auburn) play Division I softball. All were standouts for Fagan at DHS before moving on to the next level.

Aside from coaching at DHS, Fagan has an impressive record coaching travel ball. In all, over 50 of his players earned college scholarships.

In 2012, Fagan brought his talents to CF and worked primarily with the softball team's pitchers, while also working with hitting and infielders. His impact was felt right away. In his first season as an assistant with the program, Fagan helped the Patriots up their win total from 14 to 28 games and the team ERA dropped from 3.37 to 2.28. This past season, Fagan helped lead the Lady Patriots to the Atlantic District Championship Game, its best-ever showing in school history at the state softball tournament.

Fagan's prowess as a coach and teacher can be shown by his staff at DHS earning the NFCA Softball Staff of the Year in 2009 and 2010. He also earned the Florida Dairy Farmers Coach of the Year in 2010. Fagan, who earned his bachelor's degree from St. Leo University, served on the Midwest Florida FCA Region Board from 2010-2012 and is an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dunnellon. In his free time, Fagan does charity work for the Boys and Girls Club of Dunnellon and serves as a faith-based speaker at various events.
