The CF Softball team took a tough loss in the state tournament against the #2 team in the country in Northwest Florida State. CF took a one run lead in the top of the first when Hailey Scot singled in Megan Loftis who had reached on a walk. The Raiders then scored one in the bottom of the inning and another in the second and three in the third to take a 5-2 lead.
The Pats battled back scoring two in the top of the fifth. Scott once again came up big for the Pats, driving in two runs on a double to center to cut the lead to one. However, the Raiders came back scoring three more in the bottom of the fifth and increasing the lead at 8-4.
Pitcher Hailey Guffey took the loss. She surrendered five runs (two earned) on seven hits. She walked three and struck out three. Both Carly Allen (1.2 inn) and Ashley Martinec (1.1 inn) pitched in relief. Hailey Scott went a perfect 4-4 at the plate with two doubles and drove in five runs. Caitlin Blankenship also had a double going 1-4 with an RBI.
The Pats look to keep their postseason play alive on Friday when they meet Eastern Florida at 10 am in the losers bracket with the hopes of still being the NJCAA South Atlantic District B Champion and clinching a spot in the national tournament. Should the Pats win they will play again on Friday at 7 PM vs the winner of Gulf Coast and Florida Southwestern's game.
