Patriot Softball Opens Up Citrus Conference Play with a Sweep of Seminole State

The #9 nationally ranked College of Central Florida Lady Patriots softball team got off to a great start in Citrus Conference play with a doubleheader sweep over #10 ranked Seminole State. 

Game 1: CF 9 - SSC 2

The Raiders got on the board with a run in the top of the first, but the Patriots answered back with two of their own on a Leah Clark Triple that scored Emma Rogel and a Hailey Scott Sac Fly to left. Patriot starter Zoey Mills settled in and allowed only two runs, one earned, on four hits and struck out four in her five and two-thirds innings pitched to earn the win. Carly Allen closed it out throwing an inning and a third, allowing only one hit and striking out one batter. 

The Patriots offense was led by the top of the lineup with Megan Loftis (2-4, 2R), Emma Rogel (2-3, 2R), and Leah Clark's huge day with a double, triple and a home run. She was involved in all 9 of the Patriot's run, driving in six and scoring three. 

Game 2: CF 9 - SSC 0

The Patriots took an early 1-0 lead in the first when Clark stole second and andvanced all the way home to score on a Seminole State error. The Patriots added two more runs in the third on a Clark Sac Fly that scored Megan Loftis and a Bailey Holmes single to center. In the sixth inning the Lady Patriots put up six more runs to end the game in a 8-run mercy rule with the scor at 9-0. Holmes and Zoe Riley both singled to start the inning before Caitlin Blankenship hit a thre-run home run. They added another run on a Elizabeth Rosinski double and two more came in on Hayley Turner's double that ended the game. Haley Guffey threw a six-inning complete game for the win. She struck out six and allowed only four hits in the shut out. 

The Patriots will next play at Polk in Winter Haven, FL on Thurday for another Citrus Conference matchup doubleheader. First pitch of game 1 is at 4 PM
