CF Softball Goes 2-2 in Courtney Miller Invitational

The Lady Patriots traveled this weekend to Longwood, FL to play in the Courtney Miller Invitational and won both games on Saturday beating Enterprise 14-1 in game one and Tallahassee 5-0 in game two. Sunday did not fare as well for the Pats as they were defeated by Gulf Coast State 8-5 and Chipola 1-0.

Game 1: CF 14 - Enterprise 1
The Patriots got off to an early lead scoring 7 runs in the top of the first. Caitlin Blakenship, Bailey Holmes, and Avery Lawson all drove in runs in the inning. Hailey Scott later homered in the third. Ashley Martinec earned the win in the circle. She gave up one unearned run on one hit and struck out two. Leading hitters for the Pas were Megan Loftis (3-5, R, RBI, SB), Blakenship (2-4, 2 R, 3 RBI) and Holmes (2-3, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 SB).

Game 2: CF 5 - Tallahassee 0
The Patriots scored their first run in the third on a Leah Clark single. They later scored four in the fifth. Emma Rogel tripled to score two and Haley Scott singled to add another run to put the Pats up 5-0. Emma Wyman (2 Inn, W, 1 H, 2 K), Madison VanAllen (3 Inn, 2 H) and Haley Guffey (2 Inn, 1 H, 1 K) pitched shutout innings in the win. Leading hitters for the offense were Loftis (3-4, 2 R), Rogel (2-4, R, 2 RBI), and Clark (2-3, R, RBI).

Game 3: CF 5 - Gulf Coast 8
In Sunday's first game the Pats were unable to hold onto their 5-2 lead in the sixth as Gulf Coast hit a 3-run home run off CF's starter Guffey to tie it up and added on three more runs in the inning. Martinec took the loss, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in two-thirds of an inning. Loftis stayed hot at the plate going two for four with two RBI. Clark and Hayley Turner also had two hits in the game and Scott had a double with an RBI.

Game 4: CF 0 - Chipola 1
Zoey Mills two-hit complete game where she struck out 11 was not enough as the Pats lost pitchers duel 1-0 to Chipola. The lone run in the game came from a home run off the bat of Erica Ramsey in the third inning. The Pats' powerful offense was stymied by Chipola's starter Anela Ruiz. Turner, Loftis, and Rogel got the only hits for CF in the game.

The Lady Pats are back in action on Tuesday for their first Citrus Conference games. They will play Seminole State at home in a doubleheader starting at 1 PM.
