PATRIOTS WIN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, ADVANCE TO NATIONAL TOURNAMENT

The College of Central Florida Patriots are the FCSAA State/NJCAA South Atlantic District A Champions with their dominating 10-2 win over Seminole State.

This was Central Florida's fifth match up of the season verses conference foe Seminole State. The Patriots had bested the Raiders three out of four in their games during the regular season. They got off to a early lead by scoring three runs in the first. Gianna Guerriero led off the game reaching on an error by the Raiders pitcher Jada Oleski. Emily Konz walked and then Kamaya Cohen singled to load the bases for Brooke Roberts to hit a sac fly to left field scoring Guerriero. Katie Hogue followed with an RBI single scoring Konz. Hannah Meyer later doubled to score Cohen.

Seminole scratched back with one run in the bottom of the second and CF responded with two in the top of the third with a clutch two-strike two-out single to right field by second baseman Gabbie Haas. Seminole added another run in the bottom of the third but that would be the end to their scoring as Savannah Barnett closed out the rest of the game with zeros. She pitched her third complete game of the tournament and struck out nine batters while only giving up 4 hits and two runs (one earned).

In the top of the seventh the Patriots added some insurance runs by scoring four. One run scored on back to back doubles by Cohen and Roberts. Hannah Meyer added two more with her two-run no-doubt home run to center field. Gabbie Haas drove in the fourth run of the inning with a single to left field scoring O'Connor from second who re-entered the game after Alyssa Adams crushed a double to right field.

The Patriots now advance to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament held in Yuma, AZ beginning on May 24th.
