#CFSOFTBALL GOES 4-1 AT VISIT DOTHAN INVITATIONAL

OCALA-- The College of Central Florida softball team went 4-1 on the weekend at the Visit Dothan Invitational in Dothan, Ala., including an upset win over NJCAA No. 2/FCSAA No.1 Chipola College.

The Patriots' four wins included two nationally ranked teams, Chipola and Wallace State. CF improved to 11-1 after the two-day invitational.

On day one, CF defeated Chipola 7-1 before falling to NJCAA No. 14 Salt Lake Community College 5-1.

Freshman pitcher Kelsie Rivers threw a complete game two-hitter and struck out eight to help lead the Patriots past the Indians in game one. CF trailed 1-0 until its offense broke things open, plating five runs in the fifth and two additional runs in the sixth. 

As a team, CF collected 13 hits against the Indian pitching staff. Sophomore outfielder Elaina Lukas went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while infielders Gretchen Ebert (2-for-3, RBI, 2 runs scored) and Olivia Simon (2-for-4, 2 runs scored) were also integral in the Patriot win.

Day two included wins over Northwest Florida State College (7-5), Pensacola State College (11-8), and No. 13 Wallace State Community College-Hanceville (5-3).

The Lady Patriot softball team will return to action on Tuesday when it heads to Tampa for a doubleheader with Hillsborough Community College. CF will be back at home on Friday when it hosts St. Petersburg College for a doubleheader at 2 and 4 p.m.
