#CFSOFTBALL FINISHES 3-0 ON OPENING DAY AT JUCO KICKOFF CLASSIC

OCALA--College of Central Florida softball team finished 3-0 on opening day at the JUCO Kickoff Classic in Clearwater.

The Lady Patriot pitching staff allowed just one run in wins over Northwest Florida State College (2-1, 8 innings), Polk State College (9-0, 5 innings), and ABAC (12-0, 5 innings).

Game 1 against powerhouse Northwest Florida was a nail biter until the end.

CF led 1-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning from a sacrifice fly from pinch hitter Anina Fernandez that scored Katie Peters. With one on and one out in the top of the seventh, Northwest Florida capitalized on a pair of passed balls from Lindsay Markham-Rosario to tie it up 1-1.

In the bottom of the eighth, freshman short stop Takiya London laid down a sac bunt that caused a throwing error by NWF catcher to score Gretchen Ebert and close out the game in walkoff fashion.

Markham-Rosario had a career game in her sophomore debut, allowing just one run on four hits and struck out out a career-high 13 batters in eight innings of work.

Against Polk, Karli Woolington (3-for-4), Bailey Wilson (2-for-3), and London (2-for-3) each drove in two runs in the run rule, while newcomer Kayla Jensen didn't allow a run on four hits and struck out two in five innings.

In the final game of the night the Lady Patriot offense exploded for 12 runs on 14 hits against ABAC. Jensen and Woolington each homered, while London, Wilson, and Ebert each recorded two RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman lefty Samantha Urbina didn't allow a run on three hits and struck out seven in her debut.

CF will be back in action tomorrow when they take on Tallahassee Community College (9 a.m.), Pasco-Hernando State College (1 p.m.), and Eastern Florida State College (3:30 p.m.) on Day 2 at the JUCO Kickoff Classic.
