Patriots split with Falcons

OCALA-- The College of Central Florida softball team split with Daytona State College on Saturday afternoon in Daytona Beach.

FCSAA No. 4 CF (43-9) held a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, but DSC answered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to rally past the Patriots 4-3.

Marcella Parrado scored on a passed ball in the third. In the top of the seventh, Karli Woolington led off with a solo homer and Joanna Muldoon followed hitting into a fielder's choice for the third run of the game.

Brooke Barlow (3-for-4), Destinee Lizzmore (2-for-3) and Tiffani Railey (1-for-3, RS) also led CF at the plate. 

Shayne O'Connell allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out eight in six innings of work in the loss.

In game two, Railey (2-for-3, HR, 2 RS) led the way driving in three of the Patriots' runs en rout to a 6-4 win.

Barlow (2-for-3, 2 RS, RBI), Woolington (1-for-4, RBI) and Claudia Jones (1-for-3, RBI) backed Railey at the plate, driving in a run apiece.

Morgan Cushman allowed four runs on five hits and struck out three in 5.1 innings.

With the split, CF is now 16-4 in conference play, one game behind Seminole State College. The Patriots will host SSC for a crucial doubleheader on Thursday at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
