Lizzmore's two home runs, 6 RBI outing leads CF in sweep of Falcons

OCALA--College of Central Florida softball team sweeps Daytona State on Tuesday to remain atop the Mid-Florida Conference.

DSC was the lone undefeated team in conference play heading into Tuesday's doubleheader, but the NJCAA No. 5 Patriots put an end to their perfect 4-0 record.

Destinee Lizzmore led CF (36-7, 9-1) past DSC (23-9, 4-2) 12-4 (5IN) in game one behind a six RBI outing with back-to-back home runs, including a grand slam in the bottom of the fifth.

Lizzmore, who leads the state in home runs (15) and RBIs (59), finished 2-for-3 at the plate with 6 RBI, 2 HR and 2 runs scored. Brooke Barlow (2-for-3, 2 RBI), Caeley Nix (2-for-4, 3 runs scored) and Jenna Rodelo (3-for-4) backed Lizzmore at the plate in the 17-hit game.

In the circle, Morgan Cushman allowed two runs on four hits and struck out three in three innings of work. Lindsay Markham came in to relieve Cushman, giving up a two-run home run and three hits in relief.

Game two came down to the wire.

CF plated the only three runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth to defeat the Falcons 3-0 and complete the sweep.

Freshman pitcher Shayne O'Connell blanked the DSC offense, throwing a complete game one-hitter and striking out nine in the outing.

CF will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Sanford for a conference doubleheader against Seminole State College at 1 and 3 p.m. Both teams are currently tied for first in the Mid-Florida Conference.
