Lady Patriots sweep FSCJ to open up conference play

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team opened up Mid-Florida Conference play with a sweep of Florida State College at Jacksonville on Tuesday afternoon at CF Softball Complex.

Tiffani Railey recorded a five RBI, two home run effort to lead the Lady Patriots past the Blue Wave 5-1, 6-0.

In game one, CF (27-6) got on the board with a pair of RBI sac flies by Railey and Destinee Lizzmore to go up 2-0 in the bottom of the first. FSCJ pulled to within one with a solo home run in the fourth, but Railey responded with a two-run homer over the right field wall an inning later to give CF the lead for good.

Morgan Cushman pitched a complete game, three hitter, striking out eight in the win.

Railey led the way at the plate, going 1-for2, three RBI, a home run, and a run scored, while Kelsee Cullop (2-for-3, RBI, run scored) and Lizzmore (1-for-3, RBI) backed her at the plate.

In game two, CF combined for three home runs in the 6-0 rout of the Blue Wave.

Railey (2-for-3, two RBI, home run, two runs scored), Lizzmore (1-for-3, HR) and Katie Peters (1-for-3, HR) led the offensive charge for the Lady Patriots.

In the circle, Shayne O'Connell pitched three complete, allowing just one hit and striking out four in the win.

CF will be back in action on Friday when they host Hillsborough Community College for a non-conference doubleheader at 2 an 4 p.m.
