Softball goes 4-1 on the weekend at Dodgertown

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team went 4-1 on the weekend at the Historic Dodgertown Crossover Classic in Vero Beach.

The Lady Patriots, ranked No. 2 in the FCSAA, kicked off the weekend against Polk State College, defeating the Eagles 6-2. Karly Kreug went 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored, while Caeley Nix knocked in two runs. Pitcher Lindsay Markham went the distance, recording her first career complete game. Markham didn't allow an earned run on five hits and struck out seven.

CF followed up the win with a tough match up against FCSAA No. 3 Florida Southwestern State College. The Bucs capitalized on two, CF errors, plating four unearned runs in the fifth to blank the Patriots 4-0. Brooke Barlow and Kelsee Cullop recorded the lone hits on the day. Shayne O'Connell pitched five innings, not allowing an earned run on four hits and struck out six in the loss.

CF closed out the day with a season-high 17 hits in the 10-4 win over Hillsborough Community College. HCC carried a 4-0 lead through 3.5 innings, but CF rallied back to score 10 unanswered runs, including six in the bottom of the fifth, in the win. Key offensive contributors include: Destinee Lizzmore (2-for-4, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored), Kreug (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Cullop (3-for-4, 2 runs scored). Morgan Cushman went the distance, allowing four runs on 10 hits and struck out one.

On Sunday, the Lady Patriots recorded back-to-back wins over Miami Dade College (5-3) and Broward College (11-4) to close out the weekend. Lizzmore exploded for a six-RBI day against Broward, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a home run and three runs scored.

The Lady Patriots will be back in action on Friday when they host Florida Southwestern for a doubleheader at 2 an 4 p.m.
