Lizzmore, Cushman named Player/Pitcher of the Week

OCALA--A pair of College of Central Florida softball players landed state and national honors this week from the National Junior College Athletic Association and Florida College System Activities Association.

Sophomore second baseman Destinee Lizzmore was named NJCAA and FCSAA Player of the Week for the week of February 6. Lizzmore helped lead CF to an 8-1 record, batting .379 with 16 RBIs, 12 runs scored, five home runs and six stolen bases. She hit safely in eight of nine games, with her best outings coming on February 11 against Salt Lake Community College and Northwest Florida State College where she went a combined 3-for-6 at the plate, hitting three homers and driving in six.

In addition to Lizzmore, freshman right-handed pitcher Morgan Cushman received FCSAA Pitcher of the Week honors for her dominance in the circle. Cushman went 4-0 on the week with a 0.91 ERA. She allowed just three runs and scattered 11 hits while striking out 27 in 23 innings of work. She recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts in the five-inning shutout against Northwest Florida.   

The Lady Patriots return to the field Saturday when they host Indian River State College for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
