Softball goes 4-1 on the weekend at FPU Classic

OCALA-The College of Central Florida softball team went 4-1 on the weekend at the FPU Classic in Marianna, Fla.

CF embarked on a tough, two-day schedule facing some of the nation's top softball programs, including: Chipola College, Northwest Florida State College and Lake Land College.

The Lady Patriots started the weekend off with a 4-1 win over Salt Lake City Community College. NJCAA Pitcher of the Week Shayne O'Connell didn't allow an earned run on three hits and struck out a career-high 12 in the win. Destinee Lizzmore led CF at the plate with her first of four home runs on the weekend, going 1-for-3 with two runs scored.

CF faced off against NWF in the second of two games on Saturday, blanking the Raiders 6-0. Lizzmore kept it hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a pair of homers and five RBI, while Brooke Barlow went 2-for-2 with a home run and two runs scored.  The pair of Morgan Cushman (0 R, 3 H, 5 K in 5 IN) and Lindsay Markham (0 R, 2 H, 2 K in 2 IN) shut down the Raider offense.

On Sunday, the Lady Patriots went 2-1 on the day picking up wins against Lake Land College (10-3) and Columbia State Community College (9-4), before falling to FCSAA State Champions Chipola 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh.

On the day, Cushman recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts against Lake Land, while Lindsey White got the win against Columbia State.

At the plate, Lizzmore drove in four runs, while Claudia Jones and Barlow each plated three runs, and Caeley Nix and Tiffani Railey each added two.

CF will be back in action on Tuesday when they head to Clearwater for a doubleheader against St. Petersburg College. They will be back at home on Saturday, hosting Indian River State College for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m
