Softball rolls past HCC

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team continues to roll, extending its win streak to six after sweeping Hillsborough Community College on Thursday evening.

The Lady Patriots came out swinging in the first game, taking advantage of the Hawks' six errors en route to a 12-2, five-inning victory.

NJCAA Div. I Pitcher of the Week Shayne O'Connell continued her dominance in the circle tossing three, scoreless innings, surrendering just one hit while striking out three in the win.

Caeley Nix (3-for-4, 2 runs scored, RBI), Claudia Jones (2-for-4, 2 runs scored), Brooke Barlow (2-for-4, RBI, run scored), and Kelly (2-for-3, RBI, run scored) led CF at the plate. Tiffani Railey and Destinee Lizzmore each recorded two stolen bases.

HCC slowed down the Patriot offense in game two, allowing just one run in the second inning before giving way to four runs in the sixth inning.

Lizzmore (2-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored) led the way at the plate, doubling in Nix, Kelly and Jones in the sixth to put CF up 4-0. Joanna Muldoon (2-for-3, 2 runs scored) followed with an insurance run to solidify a 5-0 victory. 

Morgan Cushman kept the Hawk offense at bay, allowing just one hit and striking out four in five, scoreless innings of work. Lindsay Markham came in relief to pitch two shutout innings and striking out two.

The Lady Patriots will head to Marianna, Fla. on Saturday for a two-day tournament hosted by Chipola College where they'll face some of the nation's top teams, including: Chipola, Lake Land College, Northwest Florida and Salt Lake Community College. Click here for the complete schedule.
