Softball sweeps Polk State

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team continues to roll as they took a pair from Polk State College on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Patriots dominated the Eagles at the plate and in the circle, driving in 25 runs en rout to 10-3, 15-0 (5 IN) doubleheader win in Winter Haven. As a team, CF recorded a season-high 15 hits in each game.

In the first game, Caeley Nix broke open the scoreless game in the top of the third, singling in Melinda Rule. CF would continue the hitting spree, plating three runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings, including back-to-back solo home runs in the fifth from Destinee Lizzmore and Brooke Barlow

Shayne O'Connell, this week's FCSAA Pitcher of the Week, continued her dominance in the circle, allowing just one hit in four scoreless innings while striking out four. Lindsey White came in and closed the door on the Eagles, needing just nine pitches to retire the side. 

Game 2 didn't prove much different, as the Patriots put up 15 to shutout the Eagles in five innings.

Morgan Cushman got the start in the circle, holding the Eagles to just one hit and striking out five in three, scoreless innings of work. Lindsey Markham came in for two innings of scoreless relief.

On the day, Barlow led CF at the plate in her first game back since 2016, going 6-for-7 with three RBI and five runs scored. Tiffani Railey (4-for-5, 4 RBI), Nix (4-for-6, 2 RBI, 3 RS), and Hannah Kelly (3-for-5, 2 RBI) backed Barlow at the plate. 

CF will be back on the road on Thursday when they head to Plant City for an evening doubleheader with Hillsborough Community College. On Saturday, they will head to Marianna, FL for a two-day tournament at Chipola College.
