VERO BEACH- It was an unfortunate case of history repeating itself for the College of Central Florida softball team.
The nation's top-ranked team went down on day two of the Region 8 Tournament and won't be headed to the NJCAA National Tournament.
CF (62-5), which set a school record for wins in a season, lost consecutive games for the first time since last year's Region 8 Tournament.
On Friday, the Patriots struggled past Polk State 8-5, before losing in the tournament for the second straight year to Chipola College.
CF's season came to an end on Saturday morning with a 5-1 loss to State College of Florida-Manatee, one of three teams to beat the Patriots during the regular season.
The Patriots led 1-0 until the Manatees tied the game in the fifth.
SCF took the lead for good with a single run in the sixth and then added some insurance with three more in the seventh off Kalen McGill (33-4), whose team was 33-0 in games she started entering the tournament.
Despite the loss, CF rewrote the school record, but was denied its first trip to nationals since 2014.
