OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team opens up play in the Region 8 Softball Tournament on Friday at Dodgertown in Vero Beach, Fla.

The Patriots' bid for a second trip to the national tournament in three seasons begins with a game against Polk State College on Friday morning at 11. The game will be livestreamed on the FCSAA YouTube Channel here

Win or lose, CF will play again on Friday against either Miami Dade or Chipola.

During the regular season, the Patriots went 2-0 against Polk State, winning by scores of 8-6 and 8-2.

CF (61-3) has rewrote the school and state record books over the course of the regular season.

The Patriots have been ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA and Region 8 for the bulk of the past two seasons.

CF is led by Kalen McGill, who set the single-season school record for pitching victories in one season (33).

McGill earned Mid-Florida Conference Pitcher of the Year and was also recognized as the Region 8 Pitcher of the Week on three occasions during the regular season.

The Patriots are 33-0 when McGill starts a game.

CF also has Brooke Barlow, who leads the nation in RBI with 106.

Barlow is one of only three players in Region 8 history to drive in over 100 runs in a single season. Crystal Bustos and Monique Marier are the only others to do so.

Kelsee Cullop has added 11 home runs and 92 RBI and joins Barlow (19) and Edrienne Williams (15) as CF players in double figures in home runs.

The Patriots enter the tournament with 88 home runs, the second most hit by a team during the regular season in Region 8 history.

There's star-power throughout the roster for CF, which has a chance to break the Region 8 record for wins in a season and most wins by a program over a two-year span.

Barlow, McGill, Williams, Cullop, Mariah Wise, Caeley Nix, and Lindsey White were named to to the first-team all-MFC squad.

Wise made the first-team last year on her way to making all-state and second-team NJCAA All-American.

During her career at CF, Wise has set the career and single season marks for triples, runs scored and stolen bases.

She's scored a run in 53 games this season and has stolen at least two bases in a game on 19 occasions.

The tournament runs through Sunday and is played under double-elimination format. Click Here for complete tournament bracket.
