Barlow, McGill named MFC Player/Pitcher of the Year

OCALA--The record-breaking College of Central Florida softball team dominated the recent Mid-Florida Conference awards.

CF, who has been ranked No. 1 in the nation the bulk of the past two seasons, had Kalen McGill and Brooke Barlow win the conference's pitcher and player of the year respectively.

McGill leads the nation in wins and ERA.

She needs one more win to surpass the single-season school record for pitching victories.

Barlow, meanwhile, needs two RBI to become just the third player in Region 8 history to knock in 100 runs in one season.

Barlow, McGill, Kelsee Cullop, Mariah Wise, Caeley Nix, Edrienne Williams and Lindsey White were named to the MFC First Team All-Conference squad.

Wise received first team honors last year, on her way to earning all-state and second-team NJCAA All-American nominations.

During her career at CF, Wise has set the career and single season marks for triples, runs scored and stolen bases. She has scored a run in 51 games this season and has stolen at least two bases in a game on 19 occasions.

Williams moved up from honorable mention to first team, while the rest of the Patriot players are first-time honorees, as most are freshmen.

On the year, Williams has hit 15 home runs and had a streak of three straight games with a home run.

Making the second team are Rebecca Enter, Kylie Holton, Destinee Lizzmore and Tiona Hill.

Like Williams, Holton also had a streak of three games in a row with at least one home run.

Meanwhile, Deeandreaya Davis was named honorable mention.

CF is currently 58-2 overall and just finished off the best-ever record in Mid-Florida Conference with a 23-1 mark.

The Patriots are also unbeaten at home and have been ranked No. 1 in the nation for the bulk of the last two seasons, more than any other team nationally.

This came on the heels of CF finishing as national runner-up in 2014.

Prior to 2014, the Patriots had never finished higher in the MFC.

CF hosts Indian River State on Saturday afternoon at 1 for Sophomore Day.

The Pioneers are the champions of the Southern Conference and the team that CF defeated in 2014 to clinch its first-ever trip to the national tournament.
