OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team swept the Region 8 Player of the Week awards for the last voting period.
Kalen McGill and Caeley Nix were named Pitcher and Player of the Week respectively.
McGill went 3-0 and didn't allow a run on six hits over 13 2/3 innings.
In her final win of the week against Hillsborough Community College, McGill tied the single-season school record for wins by a pitcher (31).
The mark of 31 was set by Kristen Keyes in 2001. Keyes went on to pitch at Auburn after her time at CF.
Nix, a freshman out of North Marion High School, went 14-for-23 during the voting period and scored 12 runs. She added one double, two triples and eight RBI.
She hit safely in all six games and was 7-for-8 with five runs scored and four RBI in a sweep of Florida State College at Jacksonville.
Led by McGill and Nix, the Patriots ended the Mid-Florida Conference season at 23-1, best mark ever for a conference champion.
The Patriots also were ranked No. 1 in the final Region 8 Coaches Poll to cap off a banner regular season.
CF has now won two straight conference titles and finished third in 2014.
The Lady Patriots will close out their regular-season home schedule this Saturday with a doubleheader against Indian River State College at 1 and 3 p.m. They will honor all sophomores in a small ceremony prior to the start of game 1.
