CF sweeps season series from Lake-Sumter, finishes conference 23-1

LEESBURG- The College of Central Florida softball team capped off a 23-1 mark in Mid-Florida Conference play in dominant fashion.

The Patriots improved to 56-2 overall with a sweep of Lake-Sumter State College by scores of 11-3 and 10-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Against Lake Sumter, Kalen McGill (30-1) went 3 2/3 innings of hitless ball to push CF to the win in the opener, while Lindsey White went five innings to take the second game.

For McGill, she is now one win away from the single-season school record for wins in a season, set by the legendary Kristen Keyes in 2001.

Meanwhile, Brooke Barlow continued her assault on the record books in terms of runs batted in (RBI), as she drove in one run to push her total to 95.

Only Crystal Bustos, an Olympic standout who played at Palm Beach, and Monique Marier of Lake City have knocked in more runs in a season than Barlow.

Bustos drove in 122 in 1997, while Marier had 104 in 1999.

CF is now nine wins off the most by a Florida program in a single season.

Lake City won 65 in 2001, while Santa Fe's overall record of 51-3 in 2008 was the best winning percentage for a Region 8 program.

Mariah Wise (4-for-8, three runs scored), Caeley Nix (3-for-7, three runs scored, three RBI, triple), Kelsee Cullop (4-for-8, four RBI, three runs scored, double) and Edrienne Williams (home run) had standout games for CF at the plate.

The Patriots host Hillsborough Community College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
