Softball sweeps Seminole, clinches second-straight conference title

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team got a battle from Seminole State College, but got the job done for a sweep.

The nation's top-ranked team improved to 52-2 overall and 19-1 in the Mid-Florida Conference with wins of 4-3 and 3-0 over the Raiders on Saturday afternoon to capture their second-straight Mid-Florida Conference title.

CF broke a 2-all tie with two runs in the fifth inning of the opener. Kalen McGill then retired three straight, with the potential tying run in the bottom of the seventh, to keep Seminole at bay after it got to within one run.

McGill (28-1), the nation's leader in wins and ERA, allowed one earned run on four hits in the victory.

In the second game, CF scored single runs in the third, sixth and seventh innings to get by the Raiders.

Lindsey White went the distance in a three-hit shutout.

Mariah Wise (three runs scored), Kelsee Cullop (3-for-6, run scored, two RBI), Caeley Nix (3-for-7, three RBI, double, run scored) and Brooke Barlow (RBI) led CF at the plate over the course of the doubleheader.

The Patriots host FSC-Jacksonville on Tuesday for a conference doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m. CF looks to sweep the season series from the Blue Wave.
