OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team has been dominant in its ascent to the top of the NJCAA National Poll.

Entering Saturday's road doubleheader against Seminole State College, the Patriots are 50-2 overall and 17-1 in Mid-Florida Conference play for coach Kevin Fagan.

CF has not just defeated its foes, it has dominated them.

Already this season, the Patriots have set the school record for most home runs with 76, four more more than the previous record set two years ago.

Brooke Barlow has hit 16 home runs and is six away from the school and single-season state record held by Amy Szymanowski, set two years ago.

Barlow is third nationally in home runs and second in the state.

She is followed by teammate Edrienne Williams, who has hit 13 home runs.

Barlow leads the nation in RBI with 89, followed by Kelsee Cullop, who is third nationally with 72.

CF has four of the top five hitters in the state, as Mariah Wise (.494), Cullop (.485), Barlow (.484) occupy the top three spots, while Caeley Nix (.454) is fifth.

Wise is also second nationally and second in the state with 47 stolen bases.

During her time at CF, Wise has stolen 77 bases and is the school's all-time leader in both career and single-season steals.

All of the offense has led CF to 493 runs, 138 more than the next highest team in Region 8. The Patriots lead the nation in scoring as well, 55 runs better than the next highest squad

The 76 home runs hit by the Patriots are 16 better than Northwest Florida State, who hold the No. 2 spot in the state. 

CF's team batting average is .414, 45 points higher than Chipola and good for fourth nationally.

To compare to last year's team that spent the majority of the season at No. 1 in the NJCAA National Poll, CF has already surpassed their home runs totals (by 24), stolen bases (by 26), runs scored (by 44) and has a higher batting average (by 91 points).

It hasn't been just hitting that has led CF to its No. 1 national ranking.

The Patriots have the nation's leader in wins, Kalen McGill, who has already posted 27 victories. She is also No. 1 nationally in lowest ERA with a 0.58 mark, while Lindsey White leads the nation in saves with four.

CF is second nationally in ERA with a 1.52 mark.

McGill needs one more win to tie Holly McKinnon's mark from last season.

The next chance to see CF at home will be on Tuesday when they host FSC-Jacksonville for a conference doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
