Softball sweeps Seminole State, remains perfect in conference

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team solidified its No. 1 national ranking with a sweep of Seminole State by scores of 6-0 and 4-3 on Tuesday at CF.

The Patriots (37-1, 6-0) got a complete-game one hit shutout from Kalen McGill in the opener and then rallied from down three runs early in the second game to finish off the sweep.

In the opener, McGill didn't walk a batter and struck out four, while needing only 81 pitches (66 strikes) to shut down the Raiders.

McGill allowed only a first-inning single in the win.

Kelsee Cullop (1-for-3, run scored, RBI), Brooke Barlow (1-for-3, run scored, RBI) and Edrienne Williams (1-for-2, two runs scored, RBI) homered to back McGill in the win.

Mariah Wise (1-for-2, two runs scored) and Caeley Nix (2-for-4, RBI, double) broke the game open with three runs in the fifth inning.

The nightcap saw McGill earn the win in relief with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Tiona Hill snapped a 3-all tie in the bottom of the fifth inning, hitting into a fielders choice to bring home Caeley Nix.

CF trailed 3-0 after the top of the first inning, but chipped away and rallied for the win.

The Patriots return to action on Saturday when they host Daytona State for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
