Softball sweeps St. Johns in consecutive 5 IN games

PALATKA- The debut of the College of Central Florida softball team as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation went much like the rest of its games this season.

The Patriots (35-1, 4-0) had yet another easy time of it, as they pounded St. Johns River by scores of 12-0 and 10-2 on Thursday afternoon.

In the opener, Kalen McGill and Taylor Cruce checked the Vikings on three hits over five innings.

McGill, the two-time state pitcher of the week, didn't allow a hit in three innings.

CF scored in all five of its at-bats and had consecutive four-run innings to close out SJRSC.

Deeandreaya Davis (3-for-3, two runs scored, home run, double, three RBI), Caeley Nix (3-for-4, three RBI, double), Brooke Barlow (3-for-4, two runs scored, two RBI, home run), Edrienne Williams (1-for-3, home run, two runs scored, two RBI), Mariah Wise (2-for-3, run scored) and Kelsee Cullop (1-for-4, two runs scored) paced the Patriots.

The nightcap saw CF bolt to a 9-0, thanks to a five-run effort in the first inning.

Barlow and Wise contributed a double and triple respectively for the Patriots, who had four players score at least two runs.

CF also took advantage of four errors by the Vikings.

Lindsey White threw five scoreless innings to get the win for the Patriots.

CF hosts Seminole State on Tuesday afternoon.
