Softball sweeps Santa Fe in conference opener

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball team improved to 33-1 overall with a sweep of rival Santa Fe by scores of 8-0 in the Mid-Florida Conference opener for both teams.

CF has now won seven straight over the Saints dating back to its walk-off win two years ago in the NJCAA Region 8 Tournament in Pensacola.

Last year, the Patriots swept the Saints for the first time in school history and continued their dominance on Tuesday.

In the opener, Kalen McGill allowed one hit in five innings, while Mariah Wise (1-for-3, run scored), Caeley Nix (two runs scored), Kelsee Cullop (1-for-2, run scored, two RBI, double), Brooke Barlow (1-for-2, run scored, RBI, home run), Edrienne Williams (1-for-1, run scored, two RBI, home run) led the way at the plate.

From there, Lindsey White twirled a three-hit shutout in the second game for CF, who visits St. Johns River on Thursday.

Nix (2-for-3, two runs scored), Cullop (1-for-3, run scored, RBI, Williams (1-for-1, run scored, two RBI, home run) and Tiona Hill (3-for-3, two runs scored, two RBI, three doubles) paced CF in the second game.
