Softball sweeps Miami Dade

MIAMI- The College of Central Florida softball team improved to 29-1 with a sweep of Miami Dade by scores of 10-2 and 12-0 on Friday afternoon.

The Patriots broke the opener wide open with a seven-run effort in the sixth in a game that was 3-2 at that point.

Mariah Wise (5-for-5, two runs scored, RBI), Kelsee Cullop (1-for-4, run scored, RBI), Tiona Hill (2-for-4, run scored, RBI, double), Kylie Holton (1-for-3, run scored, RBI), Destinee Lizzmore (2-for-4, run scored, two RBI, double), Edrienne Williams (1-for-3, two runs scored, two RBI, home run) and Brooke Barlow (1-for-4, run scored, RBI, double) led CF at the plate in the opener.

Kalen McGill went all six innings and allowed two runs on five hits for the win. She walked one and struck out three.

From there, the Patriots jumped all over the Sharks with six runs in the first inning, followed by three runs in both the third and fourth innings.

Wise (1-for-1, two RBI), Barlow (2-for-3, three RBI, run scored, double), Hill (2-for-3, two runs scored), Holton (1-for-2, two runs scored) and Williams (1-for-2, two runs scored, two RBI) paced CF in the second game.

Lindsey White and Taylor Cruce combined to shut out the Sharks on five hits in the win.

CF visits Florida Southwestern State on Saturday afternoon.
