Softball goes 5-0 at Dodgertown Crossover Invitational

VERO BEACH- The College of Central Florida softball team improved to 23-1 after going 5-0 on the weekend at the Historic Dodgertown Crossover Invitational in Vero Beach, Fla.

The Patriots closed out Saturday 3-0 with wins over Palm Beach State (10-7), Gulf Coast State (3-2) and Florida Southwestern (8-0, 6IN). 

On Sunday, they closed out the two-day tournament with a pair of 8-2 wins over Polk State and Indian River State.

In the opener against Polk, CF scored five times in the fourth to break the game open, while it rallied with five runs from down 2-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning against Indian River.

Lindsey White allowed three hits and one earned run in six innings in the win over Polk.

Caeley Nix (2-for-3, run scored, RBI) paced CF at the plate. 

From there, Kale McGill allowed one earned run and four hits in seven innings in the win over IRSC.

After CF's five-run effort in the fifth, it scored three more in the sixth to improve to 3-0 on the year against the Pioneers.

Nix (2-for-3, double, RBI), Mariah Wise (2-for-4, run scored, two RBI, triple), Tiona Hill (2-for-2, run scored), Kylie Holton (2-for-2, two runs scored) and Deeandreaya Davis (1-for-2, two RBI) led the way in the win for CF.

The Patriots will have their regular season home opener tomorrow against Jackson College in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
