Softball sweeps Indian River

OCALA--The College of Central Florida softball improved to 17-0 with a sweep of Indian River State in a matchup of the top two teams in the state poll.

Top-ranked CF used a five-run effort in the ninth inning to claim a 10-6 win after a 6-1 victory over the Pioneers.

In the opener, Kalen McGill shut down No. 2 Indian River, as she didn't allow an earned run and gave up just two hits in going the distance.

At the plate, Brooke Barlow (3-for-4, two runs scored, three RBI, home run, double), Mariah Wise (2-for-4, RBI), Kelsee Cullop (3-for-4, two runs scored, RBI, home run) and Tiona Hill (2-for-4, RBI).

From there, the Patriots got a battle from the Pioneers in the second game, before Brooke Harris delivered the go-ahead RBI double during the five-run effort in the ninth inning.

Indian River sent the game into extra innings with a run in the bottom of the seventh, before both teams scored once in the eighth.

Harris then delivered the go-ahead hit in the ninth, which started an onslaught for CF, who survived a season-high five errors to win.

Wise (1-for-3, run scored, RBI), Cullop (1-for-5, run scored), Barlow (1-for-5, two RBI, two runs scored, home run), Hill (3-for-4, run scored, RBI), Caley Nix (2-for-5, RBI) and Enter (1-for-4, run scored, RBI, double) led the way for CF at the plate in the second game.
