Softball goes 5-0 at Chipola Classic, defeats NJCAA National Champs Chipola

MARIANNA- The College of Central Florida softball dominated the nationally-renowned Panhandle Conference over a two-day span this weekend.

The Patriots capped off a 5-0 effort and knocked off each of the conference's five teams with a 13-1 pounding of defending NJCAA National Champion Chipola.

CF trailed the Indians 1-0 heading into the fourth and took the lead for good with two runs in the fourth.

The Patriots then added six runs in the fifth and five more in seventh to humble the defending champs.

CF started off its 3-0 effort on Sunday in impressive fashion.

The Patriots got a walk-off two-run home run by Tiona Hill in the bottom of the seventh inning to take down Northwest Florida State 9-7.

After the Raiders tied the score at seven with two runs in the top of the seventh, CF struck quickly in its at-bat.

Melinda Rule reached on an error and Hill ended things with her homer.

Hill (2-for-4, two RBI, home run), Kelse Cullop (3-for-4, three RBI, three runs scored, home run, double) and Brooke Barlow (3-for-4, two RBI, double) paced the Patriots at the plate in the win over NWFS.

The Raiders blasted three homers against CF, but committed six errors in the wild affair.

CF also improved to 3-0 on the year against Tallahassee Community College with an 11-8 win.

Cullop (3-for-3, three runs scored, three RBI, home run), Hill (3-for-4, three runs scored, RBI), Mariah Wise (2-for-5, two runs scored, triple), Caeley Nix (2-for-3, run scored), Taylor Cruce (1-for-4, two RBI), Brooke Harris (double) and Alexis Goyette (2-for-4, run scored, double, home run, three RBI paced the Patriots at the plate against TCC.

In the win the over Chipola, Kalen McGill went the distance and allowed just one run on three hits and struck out six to earn the win for CF (15-0).

The Patriots were led at the plate by Wise (1-for-4, two runs scored, triple), Nix (3-for-5, two runs scored, two RBI, double), Cullop (3-for-4, two runs scored, double), Barlow (1-for-4, two runs scored), Hill (2-for-3, run scored, RBI), Edrienne Williams (2-for-4, run scored, double, home run), Goyette (1-for-2, RBI), Kylie Holton (1-for-3, two runs scored, RBI, double) and Jayme Kendall (double).

CF visits Indian River State on Saturday for a doubleheader at 1 and 3 p.m.
