Softball honors sophomores, closes out 2015 home schedule

OCALA- The College of Central Florida softball team closed its home schedule with a split against St. Johns River on Tuesday afternoon.

CF extended its winning streak to 13 games over the Vikings in the opener with a 4-3 win, before it fell 7-3 to close out the day.

The Patriots (47-7, 18-4) trailed 3-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but rallied with a pair of runs in the frame and took the opener.

Taylor Morrow led off with a double and Autumn Hanners followed with a single.

From there, Jordan Lane's RBI fielder's choice tied the game and three batters later, Rebecca Enter scored on the second errors of the inning by SJRSC to put CF ahead for good.

Morrow (2-for-3, double RBI, run scored) and Hanners (2-for-2) led the Patriots at the plate in the opener.

Holly McKinnon earned the win by going the distance for CF in the opener.

She allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out four.

In the second game, the Vikings jumped out to a 7-0 lead and CF failed to get a hit until the sixth inning.

The Patriots scored three times in the seventh, but were unable to complete the comeback and lost for the third time in their last four games.

CF, which has already clinched a spot in the state tournament, closes out the regular season conference slate against Daytona State on the road on Thursday.
