SANFORD- The College of Central Florida softball team was swept for the first time this season.

The nation's No. 1 ranked team fell by scores of 2-1 and 8-4 to Seminole State on Saturday afternoon.

The loss put CF's chance to clinch the Mid-Florida Conference championship on hold.

The Patriots, who have never won the MFC title in softball and had never finished higher than fourth until last season's runner-up finish, needed one win on the day to claim the crown, but Seminole had other ideas.

SSC, who lost two close games to CF in Ocala earlier this season, got out quickly in both games of the doubleheader. 

The Raiders, ranked No. 8 in the nation, led 2-0 in the opener heading into the seventh inning, but CF's Nicole White had an RBI double to cut the margin in half.

From there, Seminole escaped with the go-ahead run at the plate and ended CF's 18-game overall winning streak and 16-game streak in conference play.

In the second game, CF (46-6, 17-3) saw the Raiders score twice in the first and five times in the second to gain control. The Patriots battled back with three runs in the fourth, but couldn't get any closer.

CF made five errors in the second game to compound its woes.

Edrienne Williams (double, RBI), Taylor Morrow (two runs scored), Autumn Hanners (1-for-3, two RBI) and White (1-for-4, RBI) led the way in the second game.

The Patriots return to action on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at home against St. Johns River State for Sophomore Day. The ceremony is set to take place before the opening game of the doubleheader against the Vikings.

CF hasn't lost to SJRSC in over three years and is 2-0 against the Vikings this season.
