Patriot offense combines for 34 hits in DH sweep of Lake-Sumter

LEESBURG- The College of Central Florida softball team had no trouble with Lake-Sumter State on Thursday afternoon en route to extending its winning streak to 18 games.

The Patriots rolled to wins of 10-1 and 18-3 over the LakeHawks.

The nation's No. 1 team is now 46-4 overall and 17-1 in Mid-Florida Conference play.

CF has won its last 16 conference games and has eight consecutive doubleheader sweeps in MFC play and nine overall. 

In the opener, Holly McKinnon allowed one run on two hits in six innings of work.

From there, Autumn Hanners and Morgan Matthews combined to shut down the LakeHawks in the second game.

At the plate in the opener, Eryn Chester (3-for-4, two runs scored, double), Mariah Wise (3-for-4, run scored), Lindsay O'Steen (3-for-4, two runs scored, two RBI, double), Taylor Morrow (2-for-3, run scored, three RBI, double), and Hanners (1-for-3, run scored, double) paced CF.

In the second game, CF scored seven runs in the first for the second straight game and added eight more runs in the third.

Wise (2-for-3, three runs scored, RBI, double), Sarah Heimbach (3-for-3, two runs scored, three RBI), Cheyenne Blaha (1-for-2, run scored, two RBI), Edrienne Williams (2-for-2, RBI), O'Steen (2-for-4, two runs scored, RBI, two doubles), Hanners (1-for-3, two runs scored, three RBI, home run), Nicole White (2-for-2, run scored, two RBI, double) and Jordan Lane (2-for-3, two runs scored, two RBI) led the Patriots in the second game.

CF visits Seminole State on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
