CF Softball sweeps season series vs Santa Fe

OCALA- The College of Central Florida softball team upped its winning streak to 16 games overall by taking three games from rival Santa Fe College on Thursday afternoon.

The Patriots (44-4, 15-1), the nation's No.1 ranked team, have won 14 straight conference games.

CF won the completion of a suspended game 4-2 to start the day, before winning 5-0 and 9-1 in the regularly scheduled doubleheader.

Coming into the day, the Patriots had won 4 games over the past decade against Saints, but the 3-0 mark enabled them to sweep their rivals for the first time in school history.

CF has won the last five games with Santa Fe and six of the last seven dating back to last season.

To start the day, Holly McKinnon entered the game and threw one inning to slam the door on the Saints to finish a game that was suspended by darkness earlier this season.

For McKinnon, (23-1) it was her third save of the year.

She then tossed a complete game two-hitter in the opener of the regularly scheduled doubleheader and gave CF its 13th shutout of the year. McKinnon walked one and struck out six.

From there, Autumn Hanners (18-3), who earned the win from the suspended game, allowed one run on four hits over six innings. She walked two and struck out five.

At the plate, Hanners' three-run homer from the suspended game carried over and now has her officially at 12 for the season and the Patriots at 48.

In the opener, Rebecca Enter (1-for-3, two RBI), Lindsay O'Steen (2-for-4, run scored) and Cheyenne Blaha (1-for-3, run scored) led the way for CF.

The Patriots then finished off the Saints via the mercy rule in six innings in the nightcap.

Blaha (1-for-4, RBI, double), Hanners (2-for-2, two runs scored, two RBI, double), Eryn Chester (2-for-3, two RBI, run scored, double), Mariah Wise (3-for-4, RBI, run scored), Taylor Morrow (1-for-2, run scored) and Kylie Holton (double) keyed CF's offensive attack in the second game.

The Patriots visit Lake Sumter State on Thursday for a doubleheader at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
