Softball downs FSC-Jacksonville 6-2, 7-1

JACKSONVILLE- The College of Central Florida softball team upped its conference winning streak to 11 games in a row with a sweep of FSC-Jacksonville on Tuesday.

CF earned wins of 6-2 and 7-1 on the road to keep its No. 1 ranking in the country intact.

CF (41-4, 12-1) hasn't lost in Mid-Florida Conference play since it lost the second game of a doubleheader to the Blue Wave in early March.

In the opener, Holly McKinnon earned the win, as she allowed one earned run on seven hits. She walked one and struck out seven.

From there, Autumn Hanners threw four perfect innings in the second game, before Morgan Matthews allowed one run over the final 3 innings.

At the plate, Mariah Wise (4-for-7, three runs scored, RBI, triple), Eryn Chester (3-for-6, three runs scored), Nicole White (3-for-4, two runs scored, RBI, double), Cheyenne Blaha (3-for-7, three runs scored, two RBI, double, home run) and Jordan Lane (1-for-2, run scored, home run, two RBI) were the leaders over the course of the doubleheader.

Blaha had both her extra-base hits in the opener, while Wise also had two hits to spark the offense.

In the second game, Wise and Chester combined for four hits, while Lane smashed a home run that helped CF to the win.

The Patriots host rival Santa Fe on Thursday afternoon. They will resume the final inning of their game vs Santa Fe that was halted due to darkness at 1:30 p.m. before carrying on with their regularly-scheduled doubleheader at 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
