No. 1 Patriots sweep Daytona 6-0, 9-1

OCALA- The College of Central Florida softball team finished its first loop through the Mid-Florida Conference in excellent shape. The nation's No. 1 team upped its record in conference play to 10-1 and 39-4 overall with a sweep of Daytona State by scores of 6-0 and 9-1.

In the opener, Holly McKinnon (21-1) threw a complete game, three-hitter with five strikeouts. She didn't walk a batter in the shutout.

At the plate, Jody Weber (two RBI), Taylor Morrow (3-for-3, two runs scored, RBI, home run), Nicole White (2-for-2) and Rebecca Enter (1-for-3, run scored, RBI) led the way for CF.

The Patriots scored once in the first and then added three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

From there, Autumn Hanners (15-3) went five innings in the mercy-rule win for CF.

She didn't allow an earned run on three hits, along with one walk and four strikeouts.

CF trailed 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third, before it scored three times. The Patriots added one run in the fourth and five more in the fifth to invoke the mercy rule on the Falcons.

Eryn Chester (1-for-2, run scored), Jessica Smith (1-for-1, two RBI), Sarah Heimbach (1-for-3, run scored, two RBI, double), Morrow (1-for-3, RBI), Cheyenne Blaha (2-for-3, two runs scored, three RBI, double, home run), White (1-for-2, two runs scored, double) and Enter (1-for-1, double, RBI) led CF in the second game.

The Patriots return to action on the road Tuesday at FSC-Jacksonville.

CF has won 10 straight conference games since a loss to the Blue Wave in the second game of a doubleheader to open conference play.

CF will follow that up with a home tripleheader against rival Santa Fe on Thursday.

The first game will be a conclusion of a game that saw the Patriots lead 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning. After that, the regularly scheduled games between the teams will take place.
