CF Softball sweeps St. Johns 11-1, 7-1

PALATKA- The College of Central Florida softball team swept St. Johns River on Tuesday afternoon in Palatka by scores of 11-1 and 7-1.

The nation's top-ranked team opened up the first game with five runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh after it led the Vikings 2-1 after five.

From there, CF (37-4, 8-1) scored twice in the first and never trailed, as it won its 10th straight game.

Holly McKinnon, who wrapped up her second NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA Pitcher of the Week honor of the season, went the distance in the opener and improved to an NJCAA best 20-1 on the year.

McKinnon allowed one run on four hits. The sophomore walked one and struck out five.

In the second game, Autumn Hanners (14-3) earned the win for CF. She didn't allow an earned run on four hits, to go along with seven strikeouts.

In the opener, Jordan Lane went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead CF.

Lane (5-for-7, four runs scored, three RBI, home run, double), Eryn Chester (2-for-7, three runs scored, double, RBI), Mariah Wise (4-for-6, four runs scored, RBI), Lindsay O'Steen (3-for-8, two RBI, run scored), Cheyenne Blaha (4-for-7, four RBI, run scored, double), Hanners (3-for-8, four RBI), Nicole White (2-for-7, two runs scored) and Kylie Holton (1-for-3, run scored, home run, RBI) led CF over the course of the doubleheader.

Lane and Holton smashed home runs for the Patriots in the second game to push their national leading total to 43 on the year.
