CF Softball sweeps Lake Sumter

OCALA- The College of Central Florida softball team swept Lake Sumter State on Saturday afternoon at home by scores of 8-0 and 7-4. 

The nation's No. 1 ranked team opened up the first game by scoring five times in the fourth and twice in the fifth and invoked the mercy-rule on the LakeHawks.

Holly McKinnon won her nation's best 19th game of the season and also upped her national high to eight shutouts.

McKinnon (19-1) produced CF's 11th shutout, good for third in the country. She allowed one hit and didn't walk a batter in five innings. The former North Marion High standout struck out two.

At the plate, CF, the nation's leader in home runs gave her plenty of support.

Eryn Chester (2-for-4, run scored, three RBI), Mariah Wise (2-for-2, run scored, RBI), Taylor Morrow (1-for-3, run scored, RBI), Lindsay O'Steen (1-for-3, RBI, double), Cheyenne Blaha (2-for-3, run scored, RBI), Nicole White (1-for-1, run scored, RBI), Deeandreaya Davis (1-for-3, run scored, double) and Rebecca Enter (1-for-2, double) backed McKinnon in the shutout.

In the second game, CF scored twice in the fifth to snap a 4-all tie and held off Lake Sumter.

Wise (3-for-4, run scored, triple), Morrow (1-for-3, run scored), Davis (1-for-3, RBI), Blaha (2-for-2, two RBI, double), O'Steen (2-for-4, three runs scored, double) and Autumn Hanners (1-for-3, two RBI, double) led the way on offense.

Hanners (13-3), who is tied for the national lead in home runs with 11, went five innings in the circle for the win.

McKinnon earned the save with two hitless innings, which saw her strike out three.

CF (35-4, 6-1) visits St. Johns River State on Tuesday.
