CF Softball splits conference opener with FSCJ

OCALA- Holly McKinnon continues to lead the College of Central Florida.

McKinnon tossed her second no-hitter of the season and helped the Patriots to a 5-0 win over FSC-Jacksonville to kick off Mid-Florida Conference play at home on Tuesday afternoon.

From there, the Patriots lost 5-2 to the Blue Wave, but McKinnon's effort was a major highlight.

The sophomore struck out nine and walked three in her second no-hitter of the season. She needed 112 pitches, 68 for strikes, to get past FSC-J.

McKinnon threw first-pitch strikes to 14-of-25 hitters in the no-hitter.

She got all she needed on offense in the latter stages of the game.

CF scored twice in both the fourth and sixth innings, while it added a single run in the fifth.

Taylor Morrow (1-for-3, run scored, RBI, home run), Sarah Heimbach (2-for-3), Lindsay O'Steen (2-for-3, two runs scored) and Nicole White (1-for-3, RBI) led the Patriots in the opener.

CF then got down 5-0, thanks to a four-run second inning by the Blue Wave.

Jody Weber, who had a two-run double in the seventh for the Patriots' lone run scoring hit, finished the doubleheader with three RBI.

CF (28-4, 1-1) visits rival Santa Fe on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
