CF Softball splits with Polk

OCALA-The College of Central Florida softball team split with Polk State on Saturday afternoon at home. The Patriots (27-3) downed Polk State 4-0, but fell 1-0 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Holly McKinnon tossed a complete game two-hitter. The reigning state and national pitcher of the week improved to 14-1 on the season. She walked one and struck out 11.

At the plate, Cheyenne Blaha (1-for-3, home run, two RBI), Sarah Heimbach (2-for-3, run scored, triple, RBI), Lindsay O'Steen (RBI) and Eryn Chester (1-for-2, run scored) led CF in the opener.

The second game, though, CF was unable to push a run home after multiple chances with runners in scoring position.

It was the second loss this season for the Patriots against the Eagles.

Autumn Hanners pitched well in defeat for CF. She allowed one run on four hits, but did have four walks.

CF finished with six hits in the second game, led by Blaha, who had a double.

The Lady Patriots return to action on Tuesday in a doubleheader versus FSC-Jacksonville starting at 2:30 p.m.
