CF Softball sweeps HCC, McKinnon throws no-hitter

PLANT CITY-The College of Central Florida softball team showed it can win games in different ways on Thursday afternoon.

The Patriots got a no-hitter from Holly McKinnon in a 3-0 win, followed by a 5-4 victory keyed by Lindsay O'Steen's go-ahead two-out, two-run homer in the top of the seventh.

McKinnon faced just one batter over the minimum and struck out five for her first career no-hitter at CF. She needed just 84 pitches, 57 for strikes in getting the no-hitter. McKinnon also threw first-pitch strikes to 14-of-22 hitters she faced.

All of the offense in the opener came from Autumn Hanners, who hit two home runs and drove in all three runs.

From there, CF (24-2), ranked No. 2 in the nation, trailed 2-1 going into the top of the seventh in the nightcap.

After the first two hitters were retired, Taylor Morrow walked to bring up O'Steen, who promptly delivered the go-ahead two-run blast. O'Steen's homer was the first of three straight long balls for the Patriots, who saw Deeandreaya Davis and Kylie Holton followed with solo shots in a four-run inning.

HCC made it interesting in the bottom half of the inning, as it scored two runs, but Hanners finished off the complete game and CF came away with the sweep.
