CF Softball goes 3-0 on first day at Dodgertown Classic

VERO BEACH- Playing for the first time since it saw its 16-game winning streak come to an end, the College of Central Florida softball team got back on track in a hurry with a 3-0 record on Saturday in the Dodgertown Classic in Vero Beach.

The Patriots earned wins over Hillsborough Community College (4-0), Northwest Florida State (9-7) and Broward College (9-1). Of the three, the victory over NWFS was the most exciting.

The Patriots twice rallied from deficits of at least two runs and the second rally was three runs, as they improved to 3-0 against the Panhandle Conference this season.

CF got a single run in the fourth and added three more runs in the fifth to take the lead 8-7.

McKinnon came in and shut the door with three scoreless innings of relief.

Morrow (2-for-4, double, two runs scored, two RBI, double), Cheyenne Blaha (2-for-4, run scored, RBI), Kaylee Smith (2-for-3, two runs scored), Nicole White (2-for-3, run scored) and Lindsay O'Steen (1-for-4, run scored) paced CF against NWFS.

In the win over HCC, McKinnon went the distance in the shutout win. She didn't walk a batter in seven innings and struck out eight in the five-hitter. Overall, McKinnon threw 10 scoreless innings and allowed eight hits. She didn't walk a batter and fanned 12.

Blaha (run scored, three walks), O'Steen (1-for-3, RBI), Morrow (RBI), Autumn Hanners (1-for-2, run scored, RBI) and Smith (1-for-3, RBI, double) paced CF at the plate in the win over HCC.

From there, Morgan Matthews allowed one run on four hits in a five-inning win over Broward.

Eryn Chester (2-for-4, run scored), Blaha (2-for-4, three runs scored, two RBI, triple) and O'Steen (2-for-4, three runs scored, three RBI, homer) led CF against the Seahawks.
