SARASOTA- The College of Central Florida softball team saw its 16-game winning streak to open the season snapped in a 5-2 loss to State College of Florida-Manatee on a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

The Patriots didn't have the opportunity to even things up, as the second game was called due to the weather in the first inning.

CF (16-1), ranked second in the nation, was led at the plate by Taylor Morrow (2-for-4), Cheyenne Blaha (2-for-4, run scored, RBI, double), Lindsay O'Steen (1-for-4) and Sarah Heimbach (1-for-3, RBI).

Morrow is now 15-for-22 over the past eight games and is the reigning NJCAA/FCSAA Region VIII Player of the Week.

She entered the day second in the state in hitting and 17th in the nation

Holly McKinnon (7-1) went five innings in the circle, but saw her seven-game winning streak end in the loss.

The Patriots, who swept the Manatees two weeks ago in Ocala, left 11 runners on base in the loss.

CF fell behind 1-0 in the second, but tied things up two frames later.

From there, the Manatees regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, but the Patriots sliced the margin to 3-2 in the fifth. SCF, though, added two more in its half of the fifth and held off CF down the stretch.

The Lady Patriots head back on the road this weekend as they play five games in the Dodgertown Softball Invitational.
