OCALA- The College of Central Florida softball team was the undisputed champion of the Chipola Classic over the weekend.

The Patriots, ranked No. 2 in the nation, went 5-0 over the course of the event and outscored their opponents 48-10.

CF (16-0) went 3-0 on Sunday with 8-0 wins in five innings over Gulf Coast and host Chipola, before closing the day out with a 6-4 win over Alabama Southern.

In the opener, Autumn Hanners (8-0) allowed one hit in five scoreless innings and struck out six. At the plate, Hanners went 2-for-2 with a double and a homer.

She was backed by Sarah Heimbach (2-for-3, RBI), Cheyenne Blaha (1-for-2, two runs scored, double), Taylor Morrow (1-for-2, run scored, two RBI, homer).

From there, the Patriots took down Chipola behind Holly McKinnon (7-0), who tossed five shutout innings and checked the Indians on five hits. McKinnon, who needed 84 pitches in the win, walked two and struck out two.

Mariah Wise (2-for-4, two RBI, run scored), Lindsay O'Steen (1-for-3, homer, two RBI), Morrow (2-for-3, run scored), Blaha (2-for-3, run scored, two RBI), Hanners (2-for-2, run scored, two RBI, homer) and Heimbach (1-for-3) were the top performers in the win over the Indians.

CF closed the day with a win over Alabama Southern after pounding out 14 hits. Eryn Chester went 4-for-4 with two runs scored to cap off her best-ever performance as a member of the Patriots.

Hanners (2-for-4, RBI), Morrow (2-for-2, two RBI, double), Jessica Smith (3-for-3), Rebecca Enter (1-for-2, run scored) and O'Steen (1-for-2, RBI) also had strong games at the plate for CF in the final game of the day.

On the first day of the tournament (Saturday), the ladies had no problem getting through their first two games, cruising to wins over Gordron State (10-0, 5 innings) and Georgia Perimeter (16-6).

In the opener versus Gordon State, CF (13-0) scored nine times in the second inning and rolled to the mercy-rule victory in five innings.

Jordan Lane's grand slam sparked the inning for the Patriots.

Holly McKinnon (6-0) didn't allow a hit in three scoreless innings. She walked two and struck out three. McKinnon and Morgan Matthews combined to allow just one hit in the win.

From there, the Patriots used a six-run third inning to pull away early in the second game. CF looked to run-rule Georgia Perimeter, but a six-run fifth inning kept the game going for the Jaguars. The Patriots would go on to win 16-6, with the help of a six-run seventh inning to solidify the win.

Lane added her second homer of the day, while scoring three runs and driving in three to lead CF. Lindsay O'Steen added three hits and thre RBI, while Edrienne Williams was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and two RBI, and Rebecca Enter went 2-for-4 with three RBI for the Patriots in the second inning.

Autumn Hanners (6-0) earned the win for CF, allowing six runs on eight hits and striking out nine.

The Patriots head back on the road tomorrow for a pair of games against State College of Florida- Manatee.
