CF Softball sweeps Polk State

WINTER HAVEN-- The College of Central Florida softball team improved to 9-0 on the season with a sweep of Polk State on the road.

CF, ranked No. 2 in the nation, rolled to an 11-2 win in the opener, before using a three-run sixth inning to gain a 3-1 win in the second game.

In the opener, the Patriots rolled to an easy win over the Eagles.

Holly McKinnon (4-0) allowed one earned run on five hits in seven innings. She didn't walk a batter and struck out six.

At the plate, Mariah Wise (1-for-3, run scored), Cheyenne Blaha (1-for-3, run scored, RBI), Kaylee Smith (1-for-1, RBI), Jordan Lane (2-for-4, RBI, double), Autumn Hanners (1-for-4, RBI), Taylor Morrow (2-for-4, run scored, two RBI), Lindsay O'Steen (2-for-3, three runs scored, double), Nicole White (2-for-4, three RBI, run scored) and Sarah Heimbach (1-for-1, two runs scored, RBI) paced CF at the plate.

From there, Autumn Hanners (4-0) checked the Eagles on three hits in the second game. Hanners didn't walk a batter and struck out four. She needed just 96 pitches, 67 for strikes, to shut down the Eagles.

Wise (1-for-4), White (1-for-2, RBI, double, Lane (1-for-3, double, RBI), Blaha (1-for-3, double), Smith (1-for-3) and Morrow (1-for-3, double, run scored) paced the Patriots.

CF hosts Miami Dade on Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
