Patriots sweep Manatees in 5

OCALA-- The top-ranked College of Central Florida softball team had a dominant regular season home debut against State College of Florida-Manatee on Tuesday.

The Patriots, ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the nation, improved to 7-0 with wins of 8-0 and 9-1 over the Manatees.

Holly McKinnon threw a five-inning shutout to kick things off, before Autumn Hanners and Morgan Matthews combined for a five-inning no-hitter win to finish off the Manatees.

In the 8-0 win, Edrienne Williams put the Patriots on the board with a grand slam in the bottom of the second. Hanners (1-for-1, run scored) and Taylor Morrow (1-for-2, two runs scored, RBI) followed with back-to-back home runs in the third, before Hanners sealed the deal with a two-run homer in the fifth to close things out. 

Lindsay O'Steen (1-for-2, run scored, double) and Nicole White (1-for-2, run scored) also contributed in the win for CF.

For the game, McKinnon (3-0) allowed one hit in five innings. She walked two and struck out seven.

The bats continued to stay hot in the second game as the Patriots received homers from Hanners (1-for-2, two runs scored, two RBI) and Deeandreaya Davis (2-for-3, two RBI, run scored).

They were backed by Williams (1-for-2, run scored, RBI), Cheyenne Blaha (1-for-1, run scored two RBI), Eryn Chester (1-for-1), Kaylee Smith (1-for-3, run scored), Jordan Lane (1-for-1, RBI) and Sarah Heimbach (2-for-2, run scored).

In the circle, Hanners didn't allow a hit in 4 1/3 innings of work and sturck out three on her way to moving to 3-0.

The Patriots have scored at least seven runs in each of their seven games to this point.

CF will visit Polk State on Saturday afternoon in a matchup of teams that made it to the final day of the FCSAA State Tournament last season.
