CF Softball remains perfect on opening weekend

CLEARWATER-- The College of Central Florida softball team improved to 5-0 on the season with a pair of wins on Sunday in the JUCO Kickoff Classic.

The Patriots, ranked No. 1 in the state and No. 2 in the nation, downed Georgia Perimeter 9-5 to start the day, before knocking off Georgia Military 7-2.

In the opener, Deeandreaya Davis had the go-ahead run scoring single in a four-run sixth inning for CF.

Davis (1-for-1, run scored, RBI), Mariah Wise (1-for-2, run scored), Cheyenne Blaha (2-for-4, run scored, RBI), Rebecca Enter (1-for-2, run scored), Autumn Hanners (two runs scored), Taylor Morrow (3-for-5, three RBI, triple), Lindsay O'Steen (1-for-4, RBI), Kaylee Smith (run scored), Nicole White (1-for-3), and Edrienne Williams (1-for-2, run scored) led the Patriots at the plate.

Holly McKinnon (2-0) won the opener for CF, after allowing five runs on 13 hits. McKinnon didn't walk a batter and struck out eight in seven innings of work.

From there, CF took the second game of the day behind Blaha (two runs scored), Smith (2-for-4, two RBI), O'Steen (2-for-4, two runs scored, RBI), Davis (run scored, Kylie Holton (2-for-3, three RBI), Eryn Chester (1-for-4, run scored) and Nichole Blanton (1-for-3, run scored).

Hanners (2-0), meanwhile, didn't allow an earned run in 4 2/3 innings of work. She gave up three hits and two walks, along with five strikeouts.

Morgan Matthews finished up with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Over the five games in the tournament, CF hit .347 as a team and stole 17 bases in 20 attempts. Last season, the Patriots stole 34 bases.

CF will have its home opener on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts State College of Florida-Manatee beginning at 2 p.m.
