Lady Patriots can't hold on vs Saints

Ocala, FL-- Once again, the College of Central Florida softball team couldn't solve rival Santa Fe College.
 
The Patriots, ranked sixth in the nation and second in the state, were swept in a doubleheader by the Saints by scores of 10-6 and 4-3 in Gainesville on Thursday afternoon.
CF (23-10, 4-4) has now lost 12 straight games to their rival and is 2-33 against the Saints (16-14, 5-1) since 2006.
 
In losing the opener, the Patriots saw the Saints score seven times in the sixth inning, which wiped out a 5-3 lead.
 
CF got a three-run home run from Autumn Hanners to go ahead 4-2 early and Amy Szymanowksi hit a solo homer in the seventh for her school record 22nd of her career.
Taylor Bowen (10-5) pitched into the sixth inning, but absorbed the loss for the Patriots in the circle.
 
Taylor Morrow (2 for 4) and Cheyenne Blaha (triple) also contributed at the plate for CF.
In the nightcap, CF led 3-1 after five innings, but SFC tied the game with two runs in the sixth.
From there, the Patriots lost on a walk-off error.
 
Morrow (2 for 3, home run), Hanners (2 for 3), Szymanowski (double) and Jordan Lane (2 for 3) led CF at the plate in the second game. Hanners (7-4) went the distance, but suffered the loss in the circle.
 
Over the past two seasons, CF has lost four times by one run to SFC.
CF hosts St. Johns River State on Saturday afternoon at 1. The Patriots have won eight of the last nine games against the Vikings, which includes six wins in a row.
