CF Softball splits vs Daytona State

Ocala, FL-- Needing a spark in order to salvage a split of a doubleheader against Daytona State, the College of Central Florida softball team got a huge one from sophomore pitcher Taylor Bowen.

Bowen hurled a complete-game four-hitter, as the Patriots knocked off the Falcons 3-0 in the second game of a Mid-Florida Conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon at CF.

The sh...utout was the second of the week for Bowen, who walked just one and struck out six against DSC.

Bowen (9-3) hasn't allowed a run in 12 innings of work this week.

The Patriots (22-7, 3-1), who saw their 10-game home winning streak snapped in a 6-2 loss in the opener, turned the tables in the nightcap by snapping a nine-gameoverall winning streak for the Falcons (20-5, 3-1).

CF, ranked third in the state, used a pair of unearned runs in the first inning of the second game, keyed by an RBI single by Autumn Hanners, after two errors by the eighth-ranked Falcons.

Bowen was nearly untouchable throughout, before she had to survive a two-on jam in the seventh inning.

Lindsay O'Steen's sixth double over her last five games plated CF's other run in the second game.

In the opener, the Falcons snapped a scoreless tie with six runs in the sixth inning.

Caylee Underwood had a two-run single for CF, while Hanners, Lizzy Burchfield and Taylor Morrow all doubled, but DSC starter Paige Curtis (11-0) was able to navigate into the sixth for the win.

Amy Szymanowski went 2 for 3 with one walk and one run scored, while Hanners also had two hits in the first game.

CF visits Lake Sumter State on Friday afternoon at 2:30.
