CF Softball sweeps Seminole to open up conference play

Ocala, FL-- The College of Central Florida softball team got off to a great start in Mid-Florida Conference play on Tuesday afternoon against Seminole State at home.

The Patriots (21-6, 2-0), ranked third in the state, downed the Raiders 2-1 and 10-0, which enabled them to secure first-place in the conference.

In the opener, Jamie Nelson (6-0) went the distance and scattered five hits and struck out three.

Nelson, who didn't walk a batter in the win, got all the support she would need on a two-run homer by Jessica Nathan in the fourth.

From there, the Raiders (15-15, 1-3) took advantage of two errors by CF in the seventh to close to within one, before Nelson shut the door.

Nathan's homer and a double by Jordan Lane, the reigning FCSAA Player of the Week, were the highlights at the plate for CF in the opener.

CF then had no trouble in the second game, as it got homers from Lane, Cheyenne Blaha and Autumn Hanners in a five-run second.

Taylor Bowen (8-3) checked the Raiders on one hit over five innings for the win.

Blaha (3 for 3, three runs scored, home run, RBI), Hanners (2 for 2, run scored, two RBI) and Lindsay O'Steen ( 3 -for-3, three runs scored, three doubles, RBI) led the way for the Patriots at the plate in game two.

O'Steen now has five doubles over her last three games for CF, which hosts Daytona State on Thursday afternoon at 2:30.
