Men's Basketball falls to Santa Fe

OCALA--The College of Central Florida men's basketball team fell short of clinching back-to-back conference titles after falling to Santa Fe College on Wednesday night in Gainesville.

The Patriots went into the half down four, but couldn't hold the Saints' offense as they ran away with a 102-82 win.

Malik Dunbar led the offensive charge for the Patriots with 20 points and six rebounds, while Paul Turner (19 points, five rebounds), Francois Lewis (15 points, 8 rebounds) and Ivan Gandia (13 points, six rebounds, four assists) backed Dunbar in the win.

With the loss, CF awaits the outcome of Saturday's Daytona State-Florida State College at Jacksonville matchup to determine final conference standings and state tournament seeding.

Daytona State College would claim sole possession of the Mid-Florida Conference title and the MFC No. 1 seed in the upcoming FCSAA State Basketball Tournament in Ocala with a win over FSCJ. A loss and CF and DSC would finish as co-conference champions and the Patriots would take the MFC No. 1 seed in the state tournament due to the 2-1 head-to-head tiebreaker over DSC.

CF will close out the regular season on Saturday night when they host Victory Rock Prep on sophomore night. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. There will be a short ceremony prior to the game honoring the Patriots' four sophomores, including: Malik Dunbar, Paul Turner, Francois Lewis and Vasile Odagiu
